Shenzhen is the easiest city for foreign students to obtain a residence permit because there are no social security requirements for them, and they do not need to undergo a physical examination when registering their residence.

(1) Requirements for foreign students to obtain residence permit in Shenzhen:

Time: Generally, it takes 1-2 months for foreign students to obtain a residence permit.

Cost: There is no fee for foreign students to obtain household registration. If they use a proxy agency, the general fee is around 1800-2000RMB, depending on the agency.

Requirements:

1. Overseas students who have obtained a bachelor's degree or above (including those who have obtained permanent residency in their country of residence or re-entry qualifications).

2. Visiting scholars or post-doctoral fellows who have worked or studied at overseas universities or research institutions for more than one year and have achieved certain results.

Note: The latest policy for foreign students to obtain residence permits is consistent with the domestic academic qualifications for household registration: Bachelor's degree holders must be under 35 years old, master's degree holders must be under 40 years old, and doctoral degree holders must be under 45 years old to qualify for household registration in Shenzhen.

(2) Types of residence permit for foreign students in Shenzhen:

1. Family residence permit: Suitable for individuals who own property in Shenzhen or have relatives with property in Shenzhen.

2. Company collective residence permit: Suitable for individuals whose companies have collective residence permits. They can inquire with their company's personnel department.

3. Talent residence permit at the local police station: Suitable for most working professionals, stable and convenient, and permanently free.

Can foreign students obtain a residence permit in Shenzhen if they do not have a job?

Foreign students who do not have a job in Shenzhen but reside in Shenzhen can register with the local police station based on where they rent a home. They need to provide proof of residency, such as a lease agreement or a residence certificate provided by the landlord. However, if they do not have a job or a property or rental location in Shenzhen, they cannot obtain a residence permit.

Subsidies: Currently, there are currently no subsidies for non-doctoral degree holders in Shenzhen. The subsidy policy for doctoral degree holders under 35 years old is still being formulated.

Required documents for foreign students to obtain a residence permit in Shenzhen:

1. Certificate of overseas academic qualifications or degree recognition certificates from Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan.

2. Visiting scholars who have gone abroad to study or work need to provide their highest degree certificate in China.

3. ID card, marriage certificate (for married individuals), household registration book, birth certificate (for children who will register in Shenzhen), and graduation certificate.

Special note:

1. For marriages that occurred in China, a marriage certificate is required. For marriages that occurred abroad, a marriage certificate authenticated by the Chinese embassy (consulate) in the country of residence is required. Divorced individuals need to provide their divorce certificate, divorce agreement, or divorce judgment or mediation letter.

2. For those who register with collective residence permits, they need to provide their household registration information page and personal information page in the collective household registration book, or obtain a household registration certificate from the public security department where their household registration is located.
